Emily Estes
Pilates Instructor
Emily Estes, LPTA, LMT, has a diverse background in teaching group exercise classes. Her interest in exercise and its "fountain of youth" benefits began at an early age: swimming competitively in elementary and junior high, teaching swimming lessons and lifeguarding in her teens; then at Ledyard High School in 1974 a no-credit, lunch-time course on Ken Cooper's new book Aerobics opened her eyes to the world of running and cycling.
In 1985 Emily started her studies in physical therapy at Newbury College in Brookline, MA. While going to school part-time, she worked as the Aerobics Director for the New Bedford YMCA teaching dance aerobics and step classes and designing Nautilus strength training programs for Y members. During this time she also ran the New Bedford Half Marathon and competed in local triathlons.
As a Licensed Physical Therapy Assistant, Emily began studying and integrating aquatic therapy into her work and exercise routines. She is a certified water aerobics instructor with ATRI and the Aquatic Director for Greater Brunswick Physical Therapy at the Bath YMCA warm water therapy pool. She has taught water aerobics classes for the past 15 years and is a WABA certified Watsu (warm water Shiatsu massage) Practitioner with over 12 years of experience.
After a serious neck injury in 1997, Emily began exploring the healing benefits of yoga and Pilates. She has taken many courses at Kripalu Yoga Center and is a yoga enthusiast at Yoga Now in Brunswick. She is mat-certified Pilates instructor with the Physical Mind Institute of Santa Fe, NM and has also studied Stott Pilates.
